About Saskia Lippens

Bio-imaging, driven by the evolution in science

Saskia Lippens is a molecular biologist trained at Ghent University who developed a particular taste for technology during her postdoctoral studies. Today, she is co-manager of a leading-edge platform at VIB, named BioImaging Core that offers specialized instrumentation and servicing for both light and electron microscopy. As such, Saskia experiences first-hand how life sciences and technology have become inextricably intertwined.

Although technology has always played a major role in scientific breakthroughs, the playing field has radically changed in the past 20 years. More than ever, researchers depend on state-of-the-art equipment and the highly-specialized support of techno-scientific experts. Technologies like bio-imaging, bioinformatics and gene sequencing have become indispensable to advancing our understanding of Life. What can scientists, students and the wider public expect as the pace of this trend keeps accelerating? Expect some useful insights from Saskia during her talk at TEDxUHASSELT.
