TEDxUHasselt 2011 was an experiment: could a couple of students manage to organize a small TEDx conference? The initiative was met with massive enthusiasm and on November 7 2011, the experiment clearly succeded:
Clo Willaerts is a longtime internet- and media professional with expertise in mainly online and offline media, online communities, viral marketing and social media. She wrote the book "The Conversity Model" and is business unit manager of conversity.be, which focuses on tracing and influencing the impact of digital channels on consumers' brand preferences and buying decisions. Her advices are based on her in-depth experience with social media. She organizes Brussels Girl Geek Dinners, writes a personal blog (www.bnox.be) and writes for targetwomen.be.
Dr Ann-Pascale Bijnens received her PhD in Pharmacutical Sciences in the year 2000, at the Catholic University of Leuven. After graduating she worked as a post-doc researcher and assistant professor at the Universtity of Maastricht, Cardiovascular research institute. In 2007 she founded the Tech Transfer UHasselt, an organization that forms the link between the academic world and the industry. She is a board member of several groups including NV Ondernemerstalent, NV wetenschappark Limburg and several Hasselt University spin-offs.
Jan Borchers is full professor of computer science and head of the Media Computing Group at RWTH Aachen University in Germany, after holding faculty positions at ETH Zurich and Stanford University.
iRail started around September 2008 as the mobile website that still exists today (www.irail.be). Yeri Tiete ("Tuinslak") noticed there was no mobile alternative for the NMBS/SNCB site and decided to create it himself. The idea of iRail was to provide a simple interface to quickly look up train departure times in Belgium.
Tom Demeyer is most known for his work and dedication at the Union for Students in Flanders (VVS), as board member and later as chairman, he had serious influence on higher education in Flanders. After finishing his studies Tom went to work at VOKA, a network of entrepreneurs in Flanders.
Koen Delvaux describes himself as someone who combines market and technology insights to discover new business opportunities. Converting ideas into winning projects by bringing people and partners together is his speciality.
